Make a donation

Everything the Foundation funds comes from donors. Your gift helps make the Beaufort County Library a first-class library in South Carolina.

  • The Foundation is an independent 501(c)(3), so your gift is tax-deductible to the extent the law allows.
  • Every dollar stays in Beaufort County and goes to priorities your local library sets.
  • Endowment gifts are invested, so they keep funding the library year after year.

More ways to support the library

In memory or in honor

Give in someone’s name and we’ll send a note to the family or to the person you’re honoring. A gift that funds books and programs is a fitting tribute to a lifelong reader.

Legacy and planned giving

A bequest becomes a permanent part of the endowment and funds library programs long after it’s made. It costs nothing today, and your attorney can usually add it to a will you already have. We’re glad to walk you through it.

Business sponsorship

Local businesses can underwrite a program, a residency, or a project at a single branch. Your support shows up somewhere your customers already go every week, and we’ll work with you on how you’re recognized.

Before you decide

Questions donors ask

Is my donation tax-deductible?

Yes. The Foundation is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and contributions are tax-deductible to the extent the law allows. You’ll get an emailed receipt right away.

Where does my money go?

That depends on the fund you choose. General Support goes to the library’s current requests, from new books and programs to other library services. Endowment gifts are invested, and only the earnings are spent, so they keep making grants for years.

Who decides what my gift funds?

The Library Director and the Foundation choose projects together as needs come up during the year.

Is this the same as giving to the library?

No. The library is a county department funded by public budgets. The Foundation is a separate nonprofit that pays for programs, collections, and facilities those budgets don’t cover.

What library services does my donation support?

Your gift supports library services across all six branches and both bookmobiles, including reading programs for children and adults, new books, and e-books and audiobooks for the digital collection.
